WRA Model UN Conference

WRA Model UN members pose during the WRAMUN conference

The Model United Nations is a student-run organization that serves as a simulation of the United Nations, educating participants about world issues and promoting peace and the work of the United Nations through cooperation and diplomacy.

Along with Western Reserve Academy’s success at conferences held by Brown and Northwestern University, the leaders have also organized WRAMUN, Western Reserve Academy’s own Model UN Conference. This year’s WRAMUN conference took place from January 20th to 21st and was led by Secretary-Generals Jenny Williams, Elba Heddesheimer, and Sumedha Mahesh. In prepartion for this conference, the leaders worked to create background guides for each topic. Additionally, they reached out to local schools, asking them to participate in this conference.

The majority of students who participated came from WRA itself, with 21 students at WRA participating in the conference. Several students from nearby schools also joined WRA for the conference such as Hoban. There were three committees in WRA’s Model UN conference this year: the decolonization committee, the environmental committee and the refugee committee. WRA organized the conference incredibly well, and the participants did a great job overall. There are also other Model UN conferences outside of school that students can sign up and participate in such as the Northwestern Model UN conference (NUMUN) in April. WRA Model UN is looking forward to next year and to additional people joining.
