Ohio Election Updates

Mike DeWine, and JD Vance

On the 8th of November, general election day for Ohio took place. The key races included Governor, United States Senate and House. In the race for US Senate, Republican JD Vance won the election, surpassing Democratic Candidate Tim Ryan with 53.3% of votes. Vance actively advocates for energy independence, combating the drug and opioid epidemic and defending small businesses. Vance supports protecting the Second Amendment and restoring America’s manufacturing base.

Following Vance, Republican Mike DeWine won with approximately 2.5 million votes, swaying 62.8% of voters and beating Democratic candidate Nan Whaley. As a well-known lawyer and politician, DeWine’s career includes serving two terms as Ohio’s Attorney General (2011–2019), US Senator (2011–2019), Representative (1983–1991) and working as a county prosecutor. After securing his spot, DeWine will serve his second term as the 70th Governor of Ohio.

In the House, the republican-dominated turnouts continued, with 10 out of 15 Republican seats won. In the election for Attorney General, Dave Yost (R) beat Jeff Crossman, winning 60.3% of the votes, and Frank LaRose was elected Secretary of State.

While republican wins dominated state level, Democrat and Hudson’s own Casey Weinstein will return to the Ohio House of Representatives for District 37. Initially elected in November 2018, this is Weinstein’s third successful run, while he also continues to serve on the Hudson Council. As a Democrat, Weinstein actively advocates for education, healthcare and environmental protection. Two of his main objectives have been fighting for reproductive rights and working to create job opportunities.
